Although a huge hit on consoles, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 faced a lot of criticism on the PC, largely because of its lack of PC staple features like dedicated servers, tweakable game settings and the complete lack of mod support.
Modern Warfare 2’s never going to get these things, but Treyarch’s looking to appears PC gamers with the PC port of Call of Duty: Black Ops… which should have all three, albeit not at launch.
First, the modding. “We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch. We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game. There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm,” said a developer over at the game’s official forum
. The post then continues to confirm a developer console in the PC port, a big plus for gamers looking to tweak the behind-the-scenes aspects of the game.
As for dedicated servers, Treyarch studio heard Mark Lamia has already said their going to do their best not to repeat the mistakes of the predecessor.
In other words, if your PC is your gaming console
of choice, there may well be a lot of reasons to pick this title up… and certainly more reason than its immediate predecessor.
